AT&T Technology fight for T-Mobile
AT&T's chances of closing its $39 billion deal to buy T-Mobile USA are looking pretty slim as the FCC chairman officially expresses opposition to the deal. But how long will AT&T Technologies fight to keep the merger alive.

While details of the chairman's report assessing the merger have not been made public, officials told reporters on a conference call that in 99 out the top 100 markets in the U.S. a merger between AT&T and T-Mobile companies would harm competition. And officials refuted AT&T's claims that the merger will help it roll out new 4G LTE technology services faster and create jobs.

The FCC chairman's bold stance against the merger is just one more nail in what is looking more and more like a coffin for AT&T's deal to buy T-Mobile.There's no question that AT&T had a lot of confidence in being able to get the deal done when it announced the plan in March. The company was so confident in fact, that it agreed to pay a $3 billion break up fee to T-Mobile in term of cash. And it also agreed to give T-Mobile another $3 billion to $4 billion in assets, including spectrum, if the deal fell through.
But the tide quickly turned for AT&T technology in August when the U.S. Department of Justice filed a lawsuit against to block the deal. Other lawsuits have followed, piling on to AT&T's woes. These lawsuits are from several states attorneys general, who say they aren't buying AT&T's arguments that it will create jobs or speed up deployment of their 4G network. And rivals Sprint Nextel and Cellular phones technology South have also filed suits to block the merger.Until this latest move by the FCC, analysts have given AT&T a less than 50 percent chance of closing the deal. Some even put the chances as low as 20 percent. While it's not a surprise that the FCC would come out against the merger given the Justice.

As predicted, tablet mania ensued at this year's Consumer Electronics Show. At least 75 were introduced at the annual Las Vegas gadget extravaganza. The tablet with the most buzz was Motorola Mobility's XOOM. It's the first tablet to run on Google's ( GOOG - news - people ) highly anticipated Android 3.0 Honeycomb operating system. XOOM, which is expected to launch in the first quarter, supports Flash for easy and fast video viewing and includes 3G wireless access that can be upgraded to 4G LTE. Motorola's tablet also has a 10.1-inch screen, front- and rear-facing cameras, a camcorder and Nvidia ( NVDA - news - people ) Tegra dual-core processor.
In the TV arena Toshiba ( TOSBF.PK - news - people ) made a huge splash with its ginormous 3-D TVs that don't require consumers to wear special glasses to watch. Glasses-free TVs were introduced at last year's CES on small screens, but Toshiba raised the bar this year and demoed the technology on 56-inch and 65-inch screens. There are only a few spots in front of the TV where the effect works, though. Toshiba's glasses-free TVs are expected to go on sale in North America in fiscal 2011.

The iPhone5 will automatically sync with the iCloud which will allow users to store photos, apps, calendars and documents without having them to store in the phone’s memory. Apple is also looking to tie up with top music label companies to license songs for the iCloud service.
However, rumours state that Apple might release a low-cost “iCloud iPhone” alongside the iPhone 5. It could be named the “iPhone Mini”

The A5 contains a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 CPU with NEON SIMD accelerator and a dual core PowerVR SGX543MP2 GPU, which means that the iPhone5 can do twice the work at once. The processor speed will be somewhere between 1.2 to 1.5 GHz, with probably a 1GB RAM.
The processor upgrade is done not just to increase the processing speed of the phone, but also to compete with the newly launched Samsung Galaxy S II.
The A5 chip might effectively increase the power use, however, it is said that the chip has “got a dynamic power management”, which can lower the [speed] depending on the workload, and thus efficiently make use of the power.
According to sources, Apple has filed several patent applications relating to 3D picture capturing to the US Patent and Trademark Office later in March. This indicates that the iPhone 5 might feature a 3D camera. The filing indicates that the device will be capable of capturing, processing and rendering 3D images with dual-camera hardware.
Another interesting feature is that the iPhone 5 will be capable of taking pictures in Panorama. It will work similarly to the ’360 Panorama’ application in the App Store. It will let you take pictures in a sequence as you move the camera from one side to another, which in the end will effortlessly stitch the images together to create a panorama.
Additionally, if Apple really wants to keep up with the competition to Android, then it might consider improving upon the video resolution to a full 1080p HD recording. Currently iPhone 4 has a 720p video capture at 30 frames per second.
